PAGES' 5th webinar, with the Knowledge-Action Network on Extreme Events and Emergent Risks (Risk-KAN), will be held on 15 April 2021 at 8:00 UTC.

Logistics

The Risk-KAN provides an open platform for scientific communities from across science disciplines and engineering working on extreme events, disaster risk reduction and governance to exchange information, knowledge and data and engage in collaborative research activities.

The Knowledge Action Network on Emergent Risks and Extreme Events is a joint initiative of the Future Earth, IRDR, WCRP and WWRP programs.

Description

This webinar will be conducted by Felix Riede (Risk-KAN past4future working group convener; Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies/Center for Biodiversity Dynamics in a Changing World, Aarhus University, Denmark) and Phil Riris (Risk-KAN past4future working group convener; Institute for the Modelling of Socio-Environmental Transitions, Bournemouth University, UK).

"Mutual interests, potential synergies, and an invitation to get involved"

PAGES is one of the core constituents of the global science-policy organisation Future Earth.

Several Knowledge-Action Networks (KANs) make up another cluster of defining Future Earth components.

In this presentation, Felix and Phil will present one of the KANs: the Knowledge-Action Network on Extreme Events and Emergent Risks (Risk-KAN for short).

They present its mission and vision, aims and scope, as well its position within the wider organisation.

In doing so, they focus in particular on the working group called past4future, which aims to make paleo perspectives on past human environment interactions and especially on extreme events relevant to colleagues working in the present.

They briefly present some of the work done within that working group, all amounting to an invitation for more PAGES' scientists to become involved in the past4future initiative or any other aspects of Future Earth.
