The Palaeoecology in the British Ecological Society (PalBES) meeting will be held from 22-23 August 2018 in Hull, UK.

Venue

University of Hull, Cottingham Road, Hull HU6 7RX

Description

This is the first meeting of the British Ecological Society’s Palaeoecology Special Interest Group (SIG). We welcome ecologists with an interest in longer-term data and palaeoecologists of any kind.

Goals

The goals of the workshop are to consider the current position of palaeoecology within ecology and the BES, and to scope out the activities of the SIG over the next three years. Get involved to create a new focus for palaeoecology in the UK.

Program

The meeting consists of a one day workshop, with a mix of plenary presentations, speed talks and posters, and discussion sessions, followed by a field day visiting Hatfield Moor, a lowland raised mire with considerable ecological and palaeoecological interest.

Attendees will hear about the major LIFE+ restoration project which finished this year and the history of the site in its landscape context (e.g. prehistoric trackway), and we will also take along equipment to explore temporal (natural peat archive) and spatial (surface) ecology. The focus of the day is on outdoor discussion and networking, extending the workshop conversations.
