Assist. Professor, limnogeology & global changes - Geneva, Switzerland

The Faculty of Science of the University of Geneva, Switzerland, invites applications for a professorship in Limnogeology and Global Changes, to be based in the Department of Earth Sciences.


Appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level (tenure track). The position would start 1 September 2022.

The contract duration is six years. It is a full-time position.

Tenure and promotion to the rank of Associate Professor expected after five to six years, leading to further four-year contract, renewable.


The departmens seeks a candidate who will focus on lacustrine and marine sedimentary records to develop a creative and original research program on paleoenvironmental changes resulting from climate and human forcing on the Earth system.

Possible domains of expertise include, but are not limited to: sedimentology, geophysical/geochemical field data acquisition, quantitative analysis of paleoclimate data, chemical/organic proxy methods, records of past climates and (deep)biosphere changes.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in geology, and participation in international programs such as ICDP/IODP would be an advantage.


Duties include teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level (limnogeology, paleoclimatology, paleoceanography, sedimentology), including field courses (geology, field data acquisition).

Moreover, the successful candidate will supervise Masters' and doctoral theses, and will have to fulfil management and organizational duties within the institution.


- PhD degree or equivalent.
- Candidates must demonstrate a capacity and potential to undertake high quality research, to obtain competitive research funding, and to publish in peer-reviewed top international research journals.
- A demonstrated potential for teaching and for supervising master and doctoral theses is required.
- A good command of both French and English language is preferable. If French is not the native language, teaching ability in French has to be acquired within two years of the appointment.
