Postdoc position, Large Eddy Simulation - Bern, Switzerland

The climatology group of the Institute of Geography and Oeschger Centre at the University of Bern, Switzerland, announces an open postdoctoral position in Large Eddy Simulation using the PALM model.

Logistics

The position is initially for 12 months and the level of employment is 80%.

The position will start on 1 January 2021 or later.

Description

The successful candidate will set up the PALM model at the computing infrastructure at the University of Bern, perform simulations of a Föhn storm, and support further applications of the model.

Requirements

Applicants should have a PhD degree in Meteorology, Climate Science, Geosciences, Physics or a related field and experience in numerical modeling of weather and climate.

Good Fortran skills are a prerequisite.

The group expects very good knowledge of atmospheric physics as well as experience in working with tools for the analysis and visualisation of model data (e.g. cdo, Python, R, MatLab or similar).

Experience in handling large numbers of files and large data sets as well as experience in working in high-performance computing environments are beneficial.
